book coverAs a young boy growing up in the heart of an Italian neighborhood in South Philly, little did I know of the rich tradition that surrounded me. From the world-famous Italian Market within walking distance of my home, to my grandparents who brought with them from the old country their beloved and cherished recipes you will find in this book. Many of these are the same recipes that were handed down from their grandparents who in turn got them from their grandparents and so on.

I learned at a young age that in the Italian culture, cooking is more than food. It is more than a meal. It is almost a religion. You see to Italians, it is about the coming together of family, of friends, of anyone close to you.

You know the term "break bread?" The meaning of this phrase goes way beyond eating bread. It means to sit down with someone to not only eat but to share stories, to catch up on old times, to get reacquainted, etc. In my life, I have "broken bread" with many, many people and many of these times are very special to me, particularly the times spent with my family. Each of the recipes contained in this book all conjure very distinct and pleasant memories for me. After sampling some of the recipes, I hope they will have the same meaningful impact on you. All your favorites recipes are in here too...Ravioli, Meatballs, Lasagne, Fettuccine Alfredo, Pizza, Chicken Cacciatore, Italian Wedding Soup, Minestrone, Cheese Cake, Pizzelles, Tarts and more.

This hard cover book has over 60 recipes and is written with easy to follow instructions, so anyone, even a novice, can create these great tasting dishes. It has both main dishes and desserts.

There is an expression in Italian that means "may you live to be 100 years old". The expression is "Centanni", pronounced "Gen Don" and it is toasted with a glass of wine . So as I lift my glass to salute to you and say Centanni , I want to add a little something to it.

"Centanni and may I be around to wish you a Happy Birthday".
